Welcome to Hoschton
The City of Hoschton is a small community and a wonderful place to call home. It is located just off Interstate 85 in Jackson County in north Georgia, about 35 miles northeast of the Atlanta perimeter. Jackson County is included in the 10 fastest growing counties in the country yet offers an abundance of open spaces and unspoiled views of the state's Piedmont Region - just south of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Our climate is moderate, pleasant, and enjoyable for a wide variety of outdoor activities.
Our city mixes the advantage of small town living and the convenience of being less than 45 minutes from urban areas such as Athens, Gainesville and metro Atlanta for shopping, dining and entertainment. On behalf of all of our citizens, please visit our community and make yourself at home.
Hoschton Citizens and Businesses, there are a couple of opportunities to help the City that you may be interested in:
One reason we are asking you to consider helping is that on March 7, 2014, the GA Department of Natural Resources notified the City of Hoschton that it had been designated for regulation as a Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) under 40 CFR 122 and NPDES Permit GAG610000. This means the City has to have a Storm Water Management Program (SWMP). In the Public Involvement/Participation section of our SWMP, we have two BMP's (Best Management Practices) that you or someone you know may be interested in helping with.
One of the BMP's targets local businesses & organizations with the Adopt a Road Program. This BMP will reduce pollution to storm water in accordance with Part 5.1.4 of the Permit, because if the program removes trash from the watershed area, debris that would have otherwise entered the MS4 will be disposed of properly, providing the validity of the program in storm water protection. The program involves adopting roadway and costs $90 (the cost covers two road signs with your name on them on non-state roads). You and or your organization or business would agree to clean the adopted area 4 times per year. You will be provided with bags. An application is available at City Hall.
The other BMP will be two Annual Recycling Days: April 25, 2015 and another one in Sept. '15. These days are held in Hoschton in conjunction with Keep Jackson County Beautiful's annual recycling days. This event allows the community to take environmentally hazardous materials to a public location to be appropriately disposed of by the City. Substances that may otherwise have been improperly dumped down a storm drain are collected and handled appropriately, along with various other potential contaminants that the public may be unaware of how to dispose of. The City will measure the tonnage of materials collected that would have been otherwise dumped improperly if the recycling opportunity did not exist. While everyone's participation is encouraged, the City will also need volunteers to help with this event. Please contact the City if you would like to assist.
