The Planning and Development staff manages day-to-day activities related to the regulations
governing land use, including permitting, inspections and code enforcement. The staff maintains
written logs regarding the progress of new development, provides support to the citizens by
providing information and explanations of the various rules, and supports the Mayor and
Council with recommendations on proposed changes.
The Planning and Development staff maintains a copy of relevant ordinances such as the zoning ordinance
for public access at City Hall, and will help members of the public understand the provisions and the
rationale behind the various regulations. The staff also collects and analyzes data, and provides
assistance on various special projects such as traffic flow, parking and sidewalk improvements.
Building Inspections help ensure that new construction and renovations comply with various codes to protect
the public health, safety and general welfare. A Building Permit is required for most new construction or
renovations. Fees collected for permits help defray the costs of providing the inspection service. A
thorough inspection program helps ensure that construction in Hoschton is done well and helps to
protect your investment in our community.
Code Enforcement helps protect the public health, safety and welfare by preventing dangerous situations
from developing that could lead to injury. Code enforcement also helps to protect good citizens from being
impacted by the careless behavior of neighbors. The duties are shared between Public Safety, Public Works
and Planning staff.
